Bass Fishing
Bass Fishing
Bass fishing is one of the most popular sports in fishing. It is a great money earner for the industry and there is an endless amount of information. Bass fishing evolved mostly on its own in the United States. Unlike some types of fishing, there was really not much influence from England, but there was some influence from us that rubbed off on them. There was a big push that started for bass fishing during the time in the United States when it was starting to become more industrialized. As more trains and railroads started to be built, there needed to be several lakes and ponds along the tracks to accommodate steam engines. There was quite a distribution of large and small mouthed bass fish in many of these lakes and ponds. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, the growth of accessories for bass fishing became more prominent and the sport was starting to pick up steam yet again. Fiberglass and granite fishing poles were invented, as well as depth finders and new artificial lures were all new additions to the sport. However, during this time it was very popular to “catch and release.” This caused a gross overpopulation of bass fish and often takes several years to rebalance the population of fish.
