Here are some different types of fishing boats and what kind of fishing they’re used for. There is a ‘generalist’ fishing boat, which is a large boat built for all kinds of fishing. On this boat there are several built-in benches and chairs, and are always either fiberglass or aluminum. They are around 15 to 20 ft. long.
Flat boats are good for coastal areas, to where redfish and sea trout are native. They run quickly, and are designed for areas less than two feet deep. This boat fits two to three people at once.
Inflatable boats can also be used for many types of fishing. They’ll work in freshwater or saltwater, and they’re about 8 feet long. The convenience of these boats is that they’re deflatable, so when you are done with it you can deflate it and back it. There’s no lugging involved. Not good for chasing fish. These boats are appropriate if you’re in an area where lots of fish are already. Sedan Bridge boats are mostly used for tuna fishing, but you can also fish for others with these boats. The Walkaround fishing boat also has a center console for easy fishing access. They are popular in coastal waters and the Great Lakes, and they’re very good for family fishing trips. Salmon and offshore species of the ocean are most commonly pursued in these boats. It’s easy in this boat to follow your big fishy friends around.
