Fishing By Species

There are thousands of species of fish in the world. Fishermen certainly do not fish over thousands of species of fish and only some are sought after by fishermen. The following are species that are popular to fish for. Bass, crappie, dolphin, marlin, carp and crab, but these are just to name a few.

Bass is probably the most popular of this group. Fisherman can bass fish just about anywhere, but it is very prominent in Florida. One of the best places to go in Florida for bass fishing is Lake Okeechobee. It is known for the number of bass fish in it per square foot. In addition, there are more bass fish over seven pounds in Lake Okeechobee than any other lake that has been recorded. There are different kinds of species just in bass fish alone. Black bass and peacock bass are also known to be sought after. However, black bass is more common than peacock bass and there are only a couple of places to find peacock bass. Even though some are found in Florida, they are found more in Venezuela and Brazil.

Another popular fish to find in Florida is the marlin. Marlin fishing is much more expensive to fish for than bass, but may also be more rewarding. Again, there is not just one type of marlin to fish for, there are several. The most popular species of marlin is the blue marlin. These are found in several exotic places and even though these trips can cost a significant amount of money, can be very beautiful and fulfilling. The other types of marlins to fish are white and black marlins. These are less popular than the blue marlin and are found in fewer places.

The most expensive type of fishing might very well be crab fishing. Crab fishing is more than just a hobby, to many people, it is a job. The crab fishing boats are several thousands of dollars to build and then just as much to keep up each year. However, crab fishing is definitely the most lucrative of the fishing sports. The crab fishermen receive a percentage of the proceeds of the crab they catch. Even though the crab season is short, crab fishermen can make a substantial amount of money each year, even with only two months of work. However, the work is very demanding physically as well as mentally.

Other types of fishing include crappie fishing, dolphin fishing and carp fishing. Many of the species of fish can be found in and around Florida. As a fisherman, Florida might be a nice place to visit the next time you are planning your fishing trip. Or, it might be more beneficial and go to someplace like Venezuela to find fish and see things that you might never see here in the United States.
