Ice Fishing
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is done over a frozen body of water, such as a lake, and there is still fish beneath the surface. In Arctic regions, people rely on ice fishing in order to have food to survive. In the United States and Canada, ice fishing is a leisurely activity in the winter time. In colder states, Ice fishing reports are published to indicate good lakes in which to fish. The fish which are usually caught while ice fishing, are walleye crappie and trout. A virtue, when it comes to ice fishing is to “just wait it out.” Eventually a bite will come; it is just a test of patience.
Ice Fishing Equipment
When embarking on an ice fishing trip it is vital to come prepared for the conditions. Dressing warmly is a given. A sled would be helpful to transport all the equipment.
One’s list should include ice picks, a small shovel, an Ice auger, a mouth spreader, a hook sharpener, and rods and bait of course. Also be sure to have some sort of lantern or flashlight in case the day goes dark. Bait for ice fishing can really be anything, but crappie minnows and wax worms are readily used. An ice fishing shelter would make things golden and extremely comfortable and convenient. Ice fishing shelters are capable of literally containing the entire ice fishing experience in a box. It only works in the winter (obviously) when the ice is thick enough to hold up a shelter. A shelter can have removable floor boards so that the actual fishing can be done from inside the shelter with no worries about the weather becoming too cold. Once finished, the floor boards can be placed back in their spots and spectators can pull down the bunks and spend the night on the ice.
