Types Of Fishing
Fishing Line Fishing
Also referred to as angling, this form of fishing is the most popular among American hobbyists. When angling, a fishing rod with a hook attached to the end of its line is used. The objective is to lure in fish in an attempt of capturing them and successfully removing them from the water. Fly fishing is a form of angling targeted specifically to catching types of fish such as trout and salmon. It is called fly fishing because the bait is artificial flies. One would need a special kind of fishing rod and line called a fly rod and a fly line, respectively. The size of the artificial fly corresponds directly with the size of the rod. The heavier the fly, the heavier the rod and line need to be.
Hand Fishing
Hand fishing is just that, fishing using one’s hands. The types of sea creatures caught through hand fishing are not usually very mobile. Hand fishing is used for lobster diving and pearl diving where the pursued is easier to confine. In hand line fishing, one may also use a fishing line with weights and bait. This type of fishing is done in parts of the world where large bodies of water freeze all the way over for the winter. It is done through a hole removed through the ice. Fishermen set up stools and sit in hopes of a bite. It can be tedious, so when it is a social activity, the consumption of alcohol is typical. In order to catch larger fish, fishermen use bow fishing. This form of fishing involves standing on a boat and shooting fish with a spear from above the surface. Today spear guns are used, but previously, ancient civilizations used to make the kill using nothing but their own throbbing man power.
Dredging
Typically used to catch small shell fish, this type of fishing is done with a boat dragging a large surface area of mesh netting behind it. This can be used for mass harvesting of scallops and oysters in order to sell the catch for profit. This type of fishing is similar to dredging, but it is on a much larger scale and does not require a boat to be involved. Kite fishing is used wherever boating is inconvenient, and bivalves are abundant. A fisherman attaches fishing line to a kite and drags it through the sea bed to make his catch.
